1853 es el año en el que se introdujo la malbec en Argentina. Según cuenta la historia, el 17 de abril de 1853 el presidente argentino Domingo Faustino Sarmiento hizo explicita su misión de transformar la industria del vino del país. Así, encomendó a Michel Pouget, un francés experto en suelos, la tarea de traer nuevos varietales. Entre su selección se encontraba el malbec. Pouget siguió experimentando con la adaptación de los varietales franceses a los terroirs diversos de Argentina. Mientras en Francia la plaga de filoxera arrasaba uba gran cantidad de viñedos, incluidos los de malbec, en Argentina seguía floreciando, creando vinos altamente superiores a aquellos de su país de origen. Décadas después, en 1956, una helada exterminó la mayoría de los viñedos de malbec de Francia. Dos crisis muy difíciles de superar que hicieron que Argentina se convirtiera en el único país del mundo donde se sigue produciendo vino con la variedad malbec. Vinificación tradicional en depósitos de inox.
