Los oportos tipo «Tawny» generalmente se pueden seguir disfrutando durante unas cuantas semanas después de abrir la botella, ya que su crianza oxidativa en barrica les hace resistir mejor el contacto con el aire. Niepoort Tawny Dee proviene de un mosaico de más de 6 variedades tradicionales tintas con bajos rendimientos de la zona de Cima Corgo, en el valle del Duero. La mayoría de las uvas se pisaron en históricos lagares de piedra y se trasladaron río abajo hasta Vila Nova de Gaia, donde maduraron en pequeñas botas viejas durante tres años hasta ser embotelladas. Su color está más evolucionado que los oportos Vintage o LBV, con reflejos marrón dorado. En nariz revela delicados aromas de frutos secos y pasas. En boca es elegante y untuoso con un final dulce y equilibrado. Contrariamente a la creencia generalizada, se disfruta más servido frío, a temperatura de un blanco. Ideal como copa de media tarde o acompañando una magnífica tabla de quesos azules.
