Elaborado a partir de cepas de entre 90 y 100 años de edad, cultivados sobre suelos arcillo-calcáreos. Envejecido durante 20 meses en barricas nuevas de roble francés. Posterior reposo de 12 meses más en botella.

The production region of D.O.Ca. Rioja is located in Las regiones de las comunidades autónomas de La Rioja y el País Vasco mayoritariamente, y en menor medida de Navarra y Castilla y León​. Por la diversidad orográfica y climática se distinguen tres subzonas de producción: Rioja Alta (76 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 1, Miranda de Ebro, en la provincia de Burgos, Castilla y León), Rioja Baja (42 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 8 en Navarra) y Rioja Alavesa (15 términos municipales en la provincia de Álava, País Vasco).
