Los vinos del Bierzo tienden a caracterizarse por su expresividad en cuanto a color y aroma, y este Castro de Valtuille no es una excepción: un vino denso, muy intenso y vivo; un vino amplio y sabroso, que demuestra el por qué Raúl Pérez es un referente en la denominación del Bierzo a pesar de sus modestas producciones. Un vino armónico y bien ensamblado, elaborado con uva mencía de cepas viejas que crecen en suelos pobres de pizarra, de nariz compleja y elegante en la que predominan las notas minerales y balsámicas, y con una concentración que le permitirá incluso mejorar con algunos años más en botella. Un vino sorprendente en boca, con un estilo de vino de Borgoña, muy maduro pero sin ser pesado. Se recomienda decantar. Envejecido durante 14 meses en barricas de roble francés.
