Calatayud es una de esas denominaciones que parece sumida en un largo letargo, quizás porque la sombra de su vecina, la DO Campo de Borja, es demasiado alargada, pero nada más lejos de la realidad. La garnacha tinta, uva vanagloriada en el Campo de Borja por su amabilidad y su dulce redondez, muestra un carácter propio, totalmente distinto en la DO Calatayud y, muy especialmente, en Bodegas Ateca. La fruta del Atteca es negra y madura, pero menos amable y redonda que en el Campo de Borja. Su carácter es algo más recio en Calatayud, pero el buen uso de la madera lima cualquier posible aspereza dibujando un vino intenso pero amable en su conjunto. Los aromas torrefactos y de regaliz rodean los recuerdos de mermeladas y especias dando forma a un vino goloso a la par que intenso. Tiene atributos de vino del Nuevo Mundo, pero no pierde en ningún momento el rastro de la tipicidad. Jugoso, envolvente y elegantemente especiado sorprenderá incluso a los buenos aficionados al vino tinto. Envejecido durante 10 meses en barricas de roble francés.
