Pocos vinos en el mundo acumulan tanta historia como los de la isla volcánica de Madeira. Apreciados ya por los ingleses a finales del siglo XVII, pocas botellas y vinos hay en el mundo que se puedan disfrutar después de más de 100 o 200 años desde su vendimia. La variedad blanca boal es una de las cinco con las que se elaboran los grandes vinos de Madeira y de la que se obtienen vinos semidulces. Se encuentra plantada en las vertientes volcánicas de la isla donde convive con plantaciones de plátanos. Envejece en barricas de roble durante más de 5 años con el método Canteiro, donde desarrolla una crianza oxidativa a temperaturas elevadas. Barbeito 5 Years Boal Reserva tiene un precioso color ámbar. En nariz aparecen avellanas tostadas con recuerdos de piel de naranja confitada y cacao. En boca tiene una textura sedosa y cálida, con una dulzura equilibrada por una buena frescura y deliciosos recuerdos finales de manzana al horno. Para degustar ligeramente fresco en copa de vino blanco y despreocuparse si no se acaba la botella. Los vinos de Madeira son casi invencibles a la oxidación y al paso del tiempo, y una vez abiertos pueden guardarse sin miedo durante meses e, incluso, años.
