The production region of A.O.C. Pauillac is located in La orilla oeste de la Gironda, al norte de St-Julien. Limita al oeste con la parroquia de St Sauveur y el bosque de las Landas. Las tres comunas se encuentran dentro del Haut-Médoc. La ciudad de Pauillac es la más grande del Médoc, con una población de más de 5000. Pauillac es algo más elevada que la zona circundante, y alcanza un pico de casi 30 metros sobre el nivel del mar en la región de Château Pontet-Canet. El suelo es de grava, como con la mayor parte del Haut-Médoc. El bosque al oeste protege las vides de los vientos del Atlántico. Pauillac contiene alrededor de 1200 hectáreas de viñedos.
