Shafer Vineyards, ubicada en el sur del Napa Valley, en el estado de California y, para ser más exactos, dentro de la subdenominación del Stags Leap District, está considerada uno de los mejores productores de merlot de la región. La progresiva selección de racimos ya en los viñedos al acercarse la cosecha, desechando aquellos que no reúnen las mejores cualidades, no sólo permite que las plantas puedan concentrar toda su vitalidad en la fruta restante sino que permite retardar al máximo la recogida de fruta útil, con lo que se consigue un mayor grado de azúcares y aromas. En definitiva, un merlot suave y elegante, con la complejidad que le aporta el cabernet sauvignon y el toque floral del cabernet franc, que podemos beber de inmediato para apreciar todo su carácter aromático, o pasado algún tiempo. Envejecido durante 20 meses en barricas de roble francés (nuevas en un 40%).
