En tierra de mencías, en las laderas de Valtuille de Abajo, la familia Peique quiso hacer realidad un sueño (un capricho si atendemos a su limitada producción, tan sólo 700 botellas): dignificar una uva que hasta finales del s. XX sólo servía para intensificar el color de los vinos que entonces se vendían a granel, la garnacha tintorera. Este Peique proviene de viñas viejas de más de 80 años plantadas de forma heterogénea entre las cepas de mencía. Es una uva robusta y potente que necesita domarse con el paso del tiempo, de ahí que estemos hablando de un vino con un profundo color grosella, criado durante 20 meses en barricas de roble francés de 500 l y durante 24 meses más de reposo en el botellero. Habla el vino de cerezas y guindas, violetas, hinojos y hierbas de campo, de pizarra; en boca se muestra carnoso, con volumen, especiado y mineral. Un vino elegante y longevo, y todo un reconocimiento a una de las variedades ancestrales en el Bierzo. Envejecido durante 20 meses en barricas de roble francés. Posterior reposo en botella durante 24 meses más.
