Viñas del Vero debe su nombre a un río de la comarca del Somontano, al pie de los Pirineos, famoso por sus barrancos, gargantas y cañones. Los primeros vinos de la bodega aparecen en el mercado en la primavera de 1990 y actualmente, Viñas de Vero es la primera bodega de la denominación de Somontano por su volumen y calidad de producción, con 1.160 hectáreas de viñedo y una producción de más de 6 millones de botellas al año.

The production region of D.O. Somontano is located in La región en la provincia de Huesca que tiene como centro la localidad de Barbastro. Zona verde y abrupta, en ella la vid se cultiva en las terrazas de los valles que desembocan en el límite norte de la depresión del Ebro. Somontano significa al pie del monte y define perfectamente el área geográfica donde se asienta esta denominación de origen, ya que se trata de una zona de transición entre el valle del río Ebro y los Pirineos, también conocida como pre-pirineo.
