The production region of A.O.C. Saint-Joseph is located in Las regiones del norte del Ródano, con un clima continental que difiere de su vecino del sur, donde es más mediterráneo. Los inviernos están húmedos y marcados por los fríos vientos del mistral que pueden durar hasta la primavera. La denominación es la segunda denominación más grande en el norte del Ródano que abarca 920 hectáreas. La parte clásica de la denominación comienza en el sur alrededor de los pueblos Mauves y Tournon. 50 km al norte, cuando la denominación se acerca a Cote-Rotie, el suelo es más rico y los vinos difieren de los vinos clásicos del sur.
