Cava is located in La denominada región del Cava, que comprende fundamentalmente la comarca catalana del Penedés (provincias de Barcelona y Tarragona), donde se encuentra San Sadurní de Noya, el centro de producción más importante. El cava también se elabora en otros 159 municipios de España, de las provincias de Barcelona (63 municipios), Tarragona (52 municipios), La Rioja (18 municipios), Lérida (12 municipios), Gerona (5 municipios), Álava (3 municipios), Zaragoza (2 municipios), Navarra (2 municipios), Badajoz (1 municipio) y Valencia (1 municipio), que en su conjunto configuran la zona de producción denominada Región del Cava.
