Según certifica la piedra en el umbral de la entrada de la cava más antigua de la casa Oliveda, ya desde 1764 se producían vinos en la propiedad, para consumo familiar. A partir de 1948, José Oliveda y Casanova y su esposa Joana Rigau Ros fundan la empresa dedicada a la elaboración y comercialización de vinos y cavas. En la actualidad Oliveda cuenta con una producción de vino que se reparte entre dos denominaciones de origen: «Empordà» y «Cataluña», y una producción de cava que pertenece a la D.O. «Cava».

The production region of D.O. Empordà is located in La región de Ampurdán (Empordà), hasta 2006 denominada Ampurdán-Costa Brava, abarca la zona vinícola desde la Albera hasta la sierra de Rodas y la Garrotxa de Ampurdán, en España. El área de producción está distribuida en dos subzonas: 35 municipios al norte del Alto Ampurdán y 13 municipios al este del Bajo Ampurdán.
