Está dividida en dos subregiones con distintas tradiciones vitivinícolas, el Ródano del Norte, al que se hace referencia como Ródano septentrional y el Ródano del Sur o Ródano méridional. La subregión del norte produce vinos tintos de la uva Syrah, a veces mezclada con uvas de vino blanco, y vinos blancos de las uvas Marsanne, Roussanne y Viognier.
