La zona vinícola se extiende desde el sur de la capital de la comunidad, Pamplona, hasta la cuenca del río Ebro. Se divide en cinco zonas: Valdizarbe, situada al norte y que agrupa a 25 términos municipales, Tierra Estella, en el medio-occidental y con 38 términos municipales, Ribera Alta, situada en el centro-sur de Navarra y que agrupa a 26 términos municipales, Baja Montaña, al noreste de la denominación, sobre la cuenca media del río Aragón y que agrupa a 22 términos municipales, y Ribera Baja, localizada en el sur de Navarra, con 14 términos municipales, la más significativa.
