The production region of A.O.C. Saint-Joseph is located in Las regiones del norte del Ródano, con un clima continental que difiere de su vecino del sur, donde es más mediterráneo. Los inviernos están húmedos y marcados por los fríos vientos del mistral que pueden durar hasta la primavera. La denominación es la segunda denominación más grande en el norte del Ródano que abarca 920 hectáreas.
