Toma su nombre de la comuna Saint-Julien-Beychevelle y es una de las seis denominaciones comunales en Médoc. Varias propiedades clasificadas (Grand Cru Classé) de Burdeos se encuentran dentro de la denominación. Los vinos de Saint-Julien se producen principalmente en la comuna de Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, pero algunas parcelas se pueden encontrar en otras partes de Cussac-Fort-Médoc y Saint-Laurent-Médoc.
