Con una crianza bien definida y marcada personalidad, 200 Monges rinde homenaje a la historia de Albelda de Iregua y a su monasterio de San Martín, hoy en ruinas, desde el cual se escribió antaño el Códice Vigiliano, auténtica joya bibliográfica altomedieval en la que se cita la existencia de al menos 200 monjes. Se aconseja decantar unos 30-45 minutos antes para poder disfrutar de todo su potencial aromático. Envejecido durante un mínimo de 24 meses en barricas nuevas de roble francés y americano. Posteriormente reposa en botella durante 15 meses.

Por la diversidad orográfica y climática se distinguen tres subzonas de producción: Rioja Alta (76 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 1, Miranda de Ebro, en la provincia de Burgos, Castilla y León), Rioja Baja (42 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 8 en Navarra) y Rioja Alavesa (15 términos municipales en la provincia de Álava, País Vasco).
