El Barón de Ley Gran Reserva es un vino que bebe de dos aguas, la tradición y la modernidad, para convertirse en un gran clásico moderno. Elaborado mayoritariamente a partir de uvas de la variedad tempranillo (más algo de graciano) procedentes de las fincas que la bodega posee en Cenicero (Rioja Alta), donde la orientación, la climatología atlántica y la limitada productividad ofrecen unas condiciones ideales para la creación de este estilo de vino. Siguiendo los conceptos más clásicos de Rioja, el Baron de Ley Gran Reserva fue criado durante 24 meses en barricas de roble americano y francés (50-50%) y después permaneció en botella durante 3 años hasta adquirir toda la complejidad que define su bouquet. De atractivo color rubí de capa media y ligeras tonalidades teja, alardea de gran profundidad aromática en nariz, con frutas maduras integradas con tostados e intensas notas balsámicas (incienso). Tras algún tiempo en la copa, los aromas evolucionan hacia las especias (clavo, pimienta y vainilla), la hoja de té, la caja de puros y el cuero. El ataque en boca es redondo y armonioso, mostrando taninos sedosos, pero también manteniéndose fresco y vivaz. El retrogusto es muy persistente y complejo, recuperando tonos tostados y de pasas, así como sensaciones terrosas. Tipicidad y accesibilidad definen a partes iguales este gran tinto riojano cuya acidez le permite ser una fantástica pareja gastronómica para multitud de platos.

Por la diversidad orográfica y climática se distinguen tres subzonas de producción: Rioja Alta (76 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 1, Miranda de Ebro, en la provincia de Burgos, Castilla y León), Rioja Baja (42 términos municipales en la comunidad autónoma de La Rioja y 8 en Navarra) y Rioja Alavesa (15 términos municipales en la provincia de Álava, País Vasco).
