Alamos Cabernet es un vino que nace alimentado por la luz del sol, las noches frías y las aguas de deshielo de las montañas de Los Andes, ricas en minerales. Es un fantástico pequeño vino de altura, que lleva años destacando por su calidad y buen precio. Recibe su nombre de los álamos que resguardan los viñedos de los vientos de alta montaña y rinde homenaje a esas grandes cumbres y al clima de montaña. Precisamente de esa altitud en la que se encuentran los viñedos de la bodega, entre los 900 y los 1.500 m, emana su remarcable acidez. Si no hubieran visto su etiqueta, Alamos les invitaría a realizar un pequeño recorrido por el mundo vinícola antes de descubrir su rostro. De entrada es probable que dedujeran sus raíces sudamericanas pero pensarían más bien en la variedad malbec, y no se sorprenderían cuando les dijeran que es un vino de Catena Zapata, la huella de esta gran bodega se percibe. No del todo, porque los vinos argentinos suelen ofrecer una fruta muy madura, un fondo cálido, y el vino que encontramos en nuestra copa es muy fresco. Las notas de plantas aromáticas nos podrían recordar algunos vinos de monastrell. Hemos dado la vuelta al mundo y decidimos apostar por la primera impresión. Efectivamente, uno de los pequeños de la familia Catena, de los vinos argentinos más aplaudidos en esta gama de precio... y superior. Alamos no es un gran vino, no lo esperamos a este precio, pero merece ser respetado por el placer que ofrece. Es serio e intenso, notablemente frutal, sobre todo rico en fruta negra (moras y cerezas negras), con muchas notas refrescantes (pimienta, pino, tomillo...), notas de cueros, un fondo sutilmente secante (humo), y algunos recuerdos terrosos y toques de pólvora, aunque no es un vino que pueda considerarse mineral. Es maduro, jugoso, equilibrado y destaca su frescor, una buena acidez que le otorgará una buena evolución pero no esperen: Alamos Cabernet se disfruta mejor en su juventud. Criado entre 5-7 meses en barricas de roble francés y americano.
