El lado oscuro del oporto: opaco, grueso, intensamente rojo, vigoroso, jovial, sanguíneo, el alma del Douro. Un diamante para ser pulido por el tiempo en la comodidad de la botella. Un vino de una sola cosecha, representativo del ciclo de crecimiento de un solo año excepcional. Después de dos años de refinamiento en madera, se embotella para una larga vida de 50 a 100 años. Un vino para ocasiones especiales, para conmemoraciones y fiestas. Después de sacarlo de la bodega, se debe colocar en posición vertical durante unas horas para permitir que los sedimentos se asienten en el fondo. Dos o cuatro horas antes de ser servido debe ser decantado para separar los depósitos y permitir que el vino respire para que pueda ser servido en todo su esplendor. Para la crianza sólo se emplean barricas usadas, con muy poco aporte tánico. La madera nueva dominaría la estructura y aromas del vino.
