Elaborado con las variedades de uva blanca permitidas por el Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Oporto. Entre ellas destacan la malvasía, el godello y la rabigato. El proceso de vinificación será el mismo que todos los oportos. Los vinos resultantes se clasificarán según el grado de dulzor del vino o el tiempo de envejecimiento en barricas de roble (se tipificarán como los tawnies con indicación de edad). Muchos de estos oportos blancos están poco fortificados (hasta 16º alcohólicos), para intentar abastecer la demanda de vinos menos ricos en alcohol.
